KAK SOLNTSE

Saint-Petersburg artist, she creates paintings and graphics in the genre of the new surrealism. If Anna imagines a circus, there will be squirrels-jugglers, angels- acrobats and hyena trainers. If she draws swamps, then dinosaurs and dolphins will bathe in them. Within another picture, one can easily meet the comet, the knight and the heron of time, that swallowed up despair.

Anna's multi-colored works created by honey watercolor, bright pens and markers remind, according to herself words, “fragments of the most vivid dreams” - with an interesting story full of bizarre characters who are very familiar but not like anyone you know.

Concept

Candles from this collection take us to a fantasy world. There are seconds stretch for centuries, the bees have set up a hive in the orbit of Novaya Zemlya, and if you travel slowly along the highway, you can see a feast and a farce of unseen animals on the side of the road. These charming universes are inspired by science fiction and the works of Korney Chukovsky.

Each project Like the Sun pays attention to the beauty of the universe. The man is no longer the main character, he is an outside spectator, watching through the keyhole for the miracles outside. The focus of attention is transferred to the constantly changing nature - on the scale of gigantic and meager, space and mycelium.

The main interest of the artist Anna Andrzhievskaya is creation of surreal worlds and observation the lives of their inhabitants. The characters are like people's characters - can be perfect and agitated, angry and ironic.

For the Like the Sun project Anna Andrzhievskaya works with fragrancesfor the first time . Her imaginary universes now take on a new dimension: candle scent fills the space. Each viewer may have a three-dimensional image their own - and this do not have to match the story that the artist came up with.

KAK SOLNTSE

Margot Trushina works at the intersection of art and science, in the science/ bio art field. Her objects and installations visualise the latest discoveries in the field of neuroscience and environmentally oriented practices. In doing so, the artist she often refers to her own experience and physiological processes,  reflecting on their interconnectedness. The challenges of modern times and natural disasters — melting ice, disappearing plants — become a theme for reflection and an artistic response.

Concept

The first  project from KAK SOLNTSE is based on the idea of planetary consciousness as a profound unity between nature and man. Margot presents it as invisible streams — rays that connect all human and non-human 'bodies' in the world into one organism. Just as any of our actions are reflected in the nature of the planet, so the Earth is connected to and influenced by cosmic phenomena.

The Sun, Earth and Moon — three celestial bodies — are the three components through which the artist wants to convey a sense of this interconnectedness by activating the five senses: touch, sight, taste, hearing and smell. Margot invites you to feel as a synaesthete: to find out what the sun smells like, what the moon tastes like, and what the Earth sounds like.

This deep vital connection of all living things from man to stardust is illuminated by the rays of the first KAK SOLNTSE collection.

Letters or numbers can conjure up a sense of colour, music sounds can have taste, and days of the week and months can be three-dimensional in space.

The smell of the sun? What nonsense!
No, it is not nonsense.
In the Sun sounds and dreams,
Fragrances and flowers
All mingle in a harmonious chorus,
All woven into one pattern.
The sun smells of herbs,
Of fresh baths,
Of awakened spring,
And of resinous pine.
Нежно – светлоткаными,
Lily of the valley drunken,

That blossom triumphantly
In the sharp scent of the earth
The sun shines with its bells,
The leaves that are green,
It breathes the springtime birdsong,
It breathes the laughter of young faces.

So say to all the blind: "Come, you!
You cannot see the gates of paradise.
The sun has an aroma,
Sweetly perceptible only to us,
Visible to birds and flowers!

Konstantin Balmont – 1899

How does Sun smell?

The sun smells of mimosas, a child's smile and a snail in the palm of your hand. The sun smells of infatuation, the ringing of bells, the sea. The sun smells of desire, birdsongs and oil paint. The sun smells of laughter, pine branches, and amber resin.

Like a father's house, like an old highlander of the mountain, I love the earth: the shadow of its forests,
And the sea of murmurs, and patterns of stars,
And the strange structures of the clouds.
To the green valleys my child's eyes have been accustomed, I have dreamt of a single moon,
I have heard the sound of thunder for a while,
And the darkness caress my tired eyes.
In an unknown world, on another planet,
in the shadow of the rocks, under the endearing crimson moons,
With the saddest love I'm dreaming of those lights,
and the even murmur of oceanic strings. Among living flowers, and winged beings, I will miss my earth,
Oh happiness of hands clasped in a tight embrace, Under an old oak, in the silvery mist.

In eternal Eden, where seeking ends,
Where bliss puts its limit,
I'll dream of earthly suffering,
To the delight and languor of mortal flesh.
I am brother to the beasts and lizards and the fish,
I can understand the growth of spring's rising grasses.

I pray to the earth, its sacred rocks, with fierce restless mouth!

Valery Bryusov — 1912

How does Earth smell?

The Earth smells like the wind, running through wet grass and freedom.

The earth smells of hot rocks, books and footprints in the snow.

The earth smells of forest, moss and birch sap.
The earth smells of lily of the valley and warm clay in the artist's hands.

The moon is emerging.
There already is a little.
There's a full one hanging in the air.

This must be God,
with a wondrous
silver spoon,
Digging in the stars' ears.

Vladimir Mayakovsky — 1916

How does Moon smell?

The moon smells of a cool mountain lake, of lavender and silence.

The moon smells of lilacs, hope and inspiration.

The moon smells of unfinished poems, of tenderness, of a blank piece of paper, of insomnia, or of dreams that you don't remember.
